Adjunct Faculty - Landscape Design I (GRADE)

Location: Canandaigua, NY

The Environmental Conservation and Horticulture Department at Finger Lakes Community College is seeking innovative and adaptable educators committed to student engagement, excellence in teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration. FLCC offers many different course modalities, such as Asynchronous Online, In-person, Hybrid, HyFlex, and Synchronous Online. Adjunct Faculty members may have the opportunity to teach in one or more of these modalities based on training and experience.,

Courses may include, but are not limited to:

  • HRT-201: Landscape Design I

This course provides students with foundational landscape design principles for those students with interests in pursuing careers in landscape architecture and management. The instructor will develop curriculum covering site analysis, plant selection criteria, design principles, drafting techniques, and sustainable landscape practices. Experience with both traditional drafting methods and current digital design software is essential.

This position is part of an ongoing recruitment process. Qualified candidates will be contacted by the hiring manager as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrates knowledge of the current subject area.

  2. Delivers comprehensive lectures on foundational landscape design principles and sustainable practices as well as emerging trends and technologies.

  3. Creates and executes demonstrations for both manual drafting techniques and digital design software.

  4. Leads hands-on workshops for site analysis, measurement, and plan development.

  5. Facilitates studio sessions where students can apply theoretical concepts to real-world, practical design exercises.

  6. Executes student design projects that guide students through the complete design process from concept to final plan.

  7. Implements course outcomes based on the master syllabus.

  8. Prepare and distribute an updated course outline specific to the sections taught.

  9. Teaches courses and evaluates student performance.

  10. Maintains accurate student records.

  11. Submits pertinent data to the department and/or the College.

  12. Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. AAS – Horticulture or BS in landscape architecture/landscape management with two or more years of professional experience in site assessment, plant selection, preparation of digital/physical plans, and construction practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. MS in landscape architecture or landscape management with a proven track record of professional experience in site assessment, plant selection, preparation of digital/physical plans, and construction practices.

Additional Information:

  1. Adjunct rate of pay for the 2025-2026 Academic Year is $1,087 per contact hour
