Financial Aid FAFSA Completion Corp (Federal Work-Study)

The Financial Aid Office is seeking motivated individuals to join our team to help raise awareness about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and its critical role in securing financial aid for college. This role requires some evening and weekend hours along with travel off-campus. Travel expenses will be reimbursed as per college policy. This work-study position is part of an AmeriCorps grant program. To qualify for the AmeriCorps grant, students have until August 31, 2025, to complete 300 hours of service as they raise awareness on FAFSA and the importance of completing the form. At the end of their service term, students will be eligible for a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,565.08. Students will be provided with extensive training on how to complete the FAFSA and create an FSA user ID. Corps members will need to undergo a two-step background check (paid for by FLCC). The Truescreen check is done online, and the Fieldprint check requires the student to be fingerprinted at a scheduled location.

Essential Functions:

  1. Collaborates with the Financial Aid Office to host FAFSA completion events and informational sessions on-site and at local high schools.
  2. Assembles and manages informational tables on campus to provide resources and answer questions about FAFSA.
  3. Conducts visits to high schools to assist students with the set up of their FSA and completion of the FAFSA.
  4. Participates in virtual events to assist students and families with completion of the FAFSA.
  5. Assists the Financial Aid Specialist in conducting in-person appointments with students and families regarding FAFSA completion.
  6. Makes phone calls to remind students about FAFSA completion.
  7. Assists with FAFSA reminder mailings.
  8. Prepares materials and resources for presentations and events.
  9. Maintains records of outreach activities, student interactions, and event participation.
  10. Participates in trainings sessions from the State University of New York (SUNY) and the Financial Aid Office regarding the FAFSA process.
  11. Engages in ongoing learning opportunities to stay up to date on FAFSA policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  1. Current Finger Lakes Community College student enrolled in six (6), or more, credit hours.
  2. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  4. Enthusiasm for helping others and making a positive impact in the community.
  5. Effective organization skills and attention to detail.

Additional Information:

  1. Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour, in accordance with New York State minimum wage.
  2. Students may work up to 20 hours per week with weekend hours and travelling as needed.
