Testing Specialist - Disability Services (PT)

Location: Canandaigua, NY

Under the direction of the Disability Services Manager, the part-time Testing Specialist – Disability Services, will support the daily functioning of the disability services area and implement test proctoring for students with disabilities as well as assist with the training and facilitation of students, faculty and staff in the use of adaptive technology accommodations and processes. This position will also assist with outreach to students and academic success/mentoring appointments.

$18-$21/hour, 12-month position, hours are 8:30am-5pm, 2 days per week for a total of 16 hours, part-time

1. Qualifications:

A. Educational Background: Associate degree required. Bachelor’s degree and experience in community college setting preferred. Experience in rehabilitation services, assistive technology, or adaptive equipment instruction a plus.

B. Special Skills: Experience with disability services, the accommodation process, and test administration. Experience and familiarity with the use and applicability of assistive technology for individuals with disabilities in an academic setting. Strong Technical skills including experience with windows operating system and data base management. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; a customer service orientation, ability to maintain strict confidentiality, meet deadlines and perform basic statistical computations required.

2. Essential Functions:

Disability Testing:

A. Plan, schedule, and administer tests in accordance with College policies.
B. Select, train, and supervise temporary and/or student staff who may be hired to assist with testing procedures at main campus or campus centers.
C. Collaborate with the Disability Services Manager to provide support for testing functions and other accommodations as needed as well as assist with outreach and academic success/mentoring appointments.

D. Return completed tests to the appropriate faculty and communicate updates as necessary.

Adaptive Equipment Functions:

  1. On a regular basis educate students, faculty and staff on adaptive technology equipment and software, such as JAWS, C-pens, FM systems, speech-to-text, Kurzweil, Genio notetaking, etc. in conjunction with FLCC operating systems.
  2. Assist with preparing and reporting data on the need for, and use of, adaptive equipment.
  3. Responsible for the production of text in alternative format for students with disabilities.
  4. Collect and maintain program and student data and prepare specific reports as needed.
  5. Provide outreach to students and support academic success/mentoring meetings
  6. Assist with preparation and planning of workshops
  7. Inventory/organize supplies
  8. In collaboration with the Disability Services Manager, serve as a resource for the college on assistive technology and compliance with disability legal issues (ADA, ADAA, Section 506 and Section 508).
  9. Other duties as assigned by the Disability Services Manager.

Benefits and Salary Range:

  1. Starting hourly rate is $18.00 - $21.00 and is commensurate with qualifications
